What is Making Tax Digital for VAT?

Making Tax Digital (MTD) is an initiative from HMRC to make our tax system more efficient and effective. The changes should ultimately make it easier for businesses to get their tax right.

In practice, this means all VAT-registered businesses need to keep digital records and submit VAT returns online using HMRC-compatible software – like Xero (unless you have an exemption).
