Speaker: Zaheer Mohiuddin is a co-founder of startup Levels.fyi, an online application that makes it easy to compare and contrast salaries among different levels at tech companies in the US. Previously, Zaheer worked at Amazon (AWS) as a software engineer for 3 years. Before joining Amazon, he worked at LinkedIn as a senior software engineer for 2 years. Zaheer has a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from University of California, Irvine.

Zaheer and his friend Musa had a simple idea: build a simple, visual tool, showing levels across the different companies and salaries for each of those levels. This is very important for people before joining the company since it helps them negotiate and know how much they should get paid. Because the higher your level is, the higher your compensation — and Musa and Mohiuddin realized that people had a lot of questions about how the levels worked. If a Level 4 at Google gets a new job at Facebook, what level should they be? If someone gets promoted to ICT3 at Apple, how much should they make?

So the two friends made a website to crowdsource Silicon Valley salary data from workers at big tech companies, and it took off.
