GoodRoadBC : “The 3 Rapperteers grew up as childhood friends in the 70s in Dorchester, MA, and Michelle aka Honey-Bee thought it was a great idea to put the crew’s writing skills to good use. She and her friends were together all the time anyways, so she said, ‘Let’s become one.’

In their first year of high school, 1980, each of the girls created their own rap, with the help of Honey-Bee since they all liked her writing skills. As the years went on at Jeremiah E Burke, the bond grew stronger, and it was even more wonderful that we all were about 17 years old, about to graduate and we became known as the ‘Girls rapping in the classroom.’ The buzz started going around.

The rap that we performed [for the Massachusetts Rock Against Racism “Jeremiah E Burke Jam” event in March 1984] was our first ‘THIS IS WHO WE ARE’ rap, just giving everyone a little something about each of us and who we are. Of course, three girls rapping was not really heard back then.

After high school, we stayed in contact. On the music side, Honey-Bee continued rapping and writing spoken word.”
