As a liberating teacher, after completing 3 "rescue mission" assignments in troubled NYC ghetto schools, I taught critical literacy to thousands of students as an English Professor at Rutgers, Montclair State U., Essex County College, and CUNY.

My essays have appeared in Brooklyn Rail, NY Press, and Film International; with chapter one of my book "My Life as a Novel" appearing in Evergreen Review.

Through my weekly TV show, Public Voice Salon, I promote aesthetic education and raise critical consciousness for a better world.

My Evolved Urbanite project sponsors cultual gatherings to stimulate the intellect and to and to revive the urbane and cosmopolitan art of conversation.
