In order to reset our minds, bodies, and souls at the end of the year, we have planned a trip from California to Arizona. We have found that spending time, especially during the holidays, in nature and exploring the beautiful landscape we call earth has been very rejuvenating for us. Our last camping trip was to the Julian Mountains, but this year we wanted to do something special for our souls, so we set out for something different. Known as a spiritual mecca and a hub of global power, Sedona is one of the world's most powerful locations. This place has been visited by the most talented healers in the world. There is no better place on earth to embark on a spiritual retreat, both for your body and for your spirit, than Sedona. Our RV van has been with us for about a year now, and this is our first trip outside of California.

Day 1 began with a scenic tour of San Diego. Our first stop was Glamis Sand Dunes. Glamis reminds me of some fantastic movies I saw as a kid, like Dune. Its Sierra desert vibe makes it a pleasant place for a run in the sand or a photo stop. The sand was soft and cold and beautiful. Next, we jumped back on the 8th freeway and headed to our campsite, Painted Rock Petroglyph Site, and Campground. This place is so unique and has so much history.

We learned that this area used to have a Gila river that ran through it, and many travelers took this path to get to CA. People would travel from the east coast to the west coast using this path because it provided water and shade for the trees. This place has a history that dates back to AD 550! The Hohokam people once lived in the area and are known to have carved messages and signs into the volcanic rock. This site has the most petroglyphs with about 800 images carved into the rocks. It is one of the most amazing places in the world. I highly recommend taking the time to look it up or visit the place if you ever have the chance.
