The hottest news right now is Disney, owner of ABC news, cancelling Jimmy Kimmel immediately and indefinitely for comments he made on his late night show this week. For Jimmy Kimmel, despite not being funny normally, he finds himself now on the receiving end of cancel culture that may possibly be a career ending move.

So how did we get here?

As movies and tv shows launched after the turn of the century the entertainment industry began leaning in favor of recognizable faces and less on creativity.

What also happened around this time that played a very significant role in this process was the creation and mass adoption of social media. This turned celebrities overnight into world renowned mega sensations. The rules of the game had changed, but it was due to the creators own mistakes.

When creativity in entertainment died, and they became so reliant on recognizable faces - that was them taking a risk. The risk ended up hurting them in the long run, but it was too late to switch back. They had no clue how to be creative anymore.

The American Entertainment system is in free fall right now. It could be saved, but is going to take one courageous studio to stand up and say “Enough. From this day on we create what the people want.”
