Belarus will help Leningrad Region with builders. This was joyfully reported by the state news agency. The Russian region is currently short of 50 thousand construction workers.

Fantastic news! For the reason that there is a severe shortage of personnel in the construction industry in Belarus itself. From 2011 to 2022, construction lost almost 38% of its employees. This is more than a third of the labour force.

In Brest, the shortage of staff in the industry has grown by 80% almost in a year, if we judge by the vacancies on the website of the State Employment Service. At the end of June this year, there were 1,152 vacancies. In August last year there were 644.

It's impossible to change the situation abruptly because construction is about long-term positive expectations. Businesses order construction of new shops and offices if they plan to develop. People buy flats if they see their future and the future of their children in this country. Just with positive expectations it is still difficult.

Apparently, the Belarusan authorities have discovered new superpowers in themselves and are going to create an army of clone-builders for themselves and for the eastern neighbour.
