Here is an older (from 1979) Sencore CR31A CRT tester/rejuvenator. After cleaning the switches and controls, it seems to work fine. It's a decent "go/no go" CRT tester for vintage TV servicing; but, if one wishes to test later CRT's or do a better job of rejuvenating weak CRT's, it would be better to get a newer tester (Sencore CR70, CR7000, B&K 467, 470, 480, or 490). I believe this model was replaced by the CR70 in 1984 and the CR70 was replaced by the CR7000 in the mid-to-late '90's.

Fortunately, even later model CRT testers can often be bought for a reasonable price because flat panel technology has basically caused CRT's to be obsolete and these testers that cost over a grand 10-15 years ago can often be bought for under $100 today.

If you plan on fixing vintage TV's, you really need a CRT tester so that you can test the condition of the CRT before fixing the chassis. Trust me, it's not a good feeling to overhaul a chassis and then find out that the CRT is toast. When I get a vintage TV in for repair, the first thing I do is test the CRT. If it's bad, I won't go any further until I find a good tube or make the decision to scrap the set.
