BJP MP from Bengaluru South Tejasvi Surya said that the proposed Bengaluru Metro fare hike has been temporarily put on hold following the intervention of Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

Surya said Khattar, who holds the Housing and Urban Affairs portfolio, has instructed officials to keep the fare revision on hold, which was scheduled to take effect from February 9. He added that the Union Minister has assured a personal review of anomalies in the Fare Fixation Committee (FFC) and said a fresh committee could be considered if the state government requests it.

Noting that Bengaluru already has the costliest metro fares in the country, Surya said another hike would make public transport unaffordable for lakhs of commuters. He thanked Khattar for what he termed a “swift and sensitive” response, and urged the Karnataka government to act in citizens’ interest.

The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had earlier announced a zone-wise fare revision under its automatic fare adjustment system. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said the issue would be discussed with BMRCL authorities.
