#3 Aldo Montano

Aldo Montano is the third generation of his family to win the fencing medal for Italy at the Olympic Games.
He trained with maestro Victor Sidyak at the Fides Fencing Club in the late 90s. He played for the sports group Fiamme Azzurre.

He won the gold medal in the individual saber tournament at the XXVIII 2004 Athens Olympics. At the same Olympics, he managed to win silver in the team tournament with Giampiero Pastore and Luigi Tarantino.
Participated in the 2005 Mediterranean Games in Almeria, winning the gold medal.

At the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the individual saber, he lost to Spaniard Jorge Pina Perez, while winning the bronze medal in the command saber along with Luigi Tarantino, Giampiero Pastore and Diego Occuzzi.

On October 11, 2011, he won the gold medal in the individual saber tournament at the World Championships in Catania, beating German Nicholas Limbach in the final, beating 15-13.

On August 3, 2012, at the London Olympics, he won the bronze medal in the command saber.
He won the team gold medal at the 2015 World Championships in Moscow.

In January 2016, he won the Luxardo Trophy and qualified for his fourth Olympics, where he was eliminated in the eighth round of individual training. In June 2017, he won the team silver medal at the European Championships in Georgia. At the 2018 World Championships in Wuxi, he won the team silver medal in the saber.

In Tokyo 2020, he competed in his fifth Olympics as a reserve for the men's saber team. With a muscle injury in the semifinals against Hungary, he took over during the match, decisive for the final victory that would allow him to advance to the final. He played in the final against South Korea in the starting lineup held on July 28, 2021, winning a silver medal in the men's saber team. At the end of the final, he publicly announces his retirement from competitions.
