Blending rich Colonial design with the glory of Pharaonic times, this elegant palace offers a distinguished experience in a romantic setting. The Old Winter Palace is one of the most famous hotels in Egypt. Built in the late 19th century to provide accommodation for visiting English nobility, much of this historic grandeur is still tangible today. It was here that Howard Carter was staying (courtesy of Lord Carnarvon) when he discovered Tutankhamun's tomb.

A building of real character, it occupies a prime location on the Nile corniche in Luxor. The hotel was recently renovated and the rooms have marvelous high ceilings and period furnishings, while the corridors, restaurants and bar all display some wonderful antiques. Service is not of the highest standard, and despite refurbishment there is still a slightly aging feel to much of the hotel: as with other historic hotels in Egypt. As long as you are prepared for this, it is part of the hotel's charm.

A stunning example of Victorian architecture, this prestigious hotel is a short walk from Luxor Temple and features high-standard facilities.
Sofitel Winter Palace Luxor has a history of hosting royalty and celebrities throughout the years. The interior features grand staircases, high ceilings and lounge areas that are appointed with antique furniture and beautiful flower arrangements.
As can be expected, Winter Palace's restaurants have a historical reputation to keep up to. Relax and socialize as you enjoy French cuisine with the latest fusion dishes from around the world. The pool scene is stunning and has the vibe of a private oasis with surrounding palm trees. A variety of convenient services are also offered at Winter Palace to deliver a memorable and stress-free holiday. With the visit of the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut just outside of Luxor, my Nile cruise itinerary had come to an end. As my train back to Cairo would only depart the following day, I had one night left to spend in Luxor. Even before my trip, I had anticipated that the intensive tour, which included some of Ancient Egypt’s most renowned sights, would leave me exhausted. Therefore, I had made the choice to reserve a 5-star hotel in Luxor for some much-needed rest and relaxation. Although I heard some good things about the Hilton Resort and its grounds right on the banks of the River Nile looked stunning, I knew there was only one proper choice in Luxor: The famous Winter Palace. The Winter Palace in Luxor, which is nowadays managed by Sofitel, is the historic luxury hotel in Luxor.Luxor’s Winter Palace is famed for its large palm garden, and the rich history of this hotel made it impossible for me to even contemplate staying elsewhere.
