Caught sight of this striated heron foraging on a drizzling day. Seems like it was just catching small twigs from the waters! This doesn't seem to be a very fruitful hunting session.

The Striated Heron, also known as the Little Green Heron, is a small heron species found throughout the tropics, including in Singapore. They have distinctive striated plumage on their neck and chest, and a long, pointed bill that they use to catch fish and other small aquatic creatures.

Striated Herons are adaptable birds and can be found in a variety of aquatic habitats, including mangroves, marshes, and tidal flats. They are skilled hunters, stalking their prey slowly and patiently before striking with lightning-fast reflexes.

Despite their small size, Striated Herons are territorial and can be aggressive towards other birds, including members of their own species. During breeding season, they build nests in trees or shrubs near water, where they lay a clutch of 2-4 eggs. Both parents take turns incubating the eggs and caring for the chicks, which fledge after about a month.
