AI Transformation: Challenges and Opportunities

We live in an increasingly digital world. The amount of digital information, both private and public, that gets continuously generated is astronomical. Along comes modern Artificial Intelligence, based on knowledge inference from big data. AI is massively adopted in industry, there is both an explosion of AI-based start-ups and a race to transform existing companies with the introduction of AI. Nobody wants to miss out on AI opportunities.
Add to this, is the democratization of services and the proliferation of social networking phenomena.

This cocktail represents a technological turning point, one for which our governments, our industries and our society need to prepare for. To what extend is AI a threat or an opportunity? What are the ethical considerations we need to ponder? And how is AI fundamentally different, or not, from other technologies that have revolutionized human society, such as radio, electricity, printing… or even writing?

In this presentation I’ll try to give you an insider’s perspective into some of these questions and leave others open, inviting you all to engage in this reflection we need to have around AI.

Bio: Simona Gandrabur has been working in the general field of AI for close to 20 years, most notably in areas related to the processing of human languages – such as automatic speech recognition, natural language understanding, machine translation and conversational reasoning. Her experience ranges from many years in research, in the development of smart assistant applications, to defining strategy of AI-based offers. She is currently the head of AI strategy within the Wealth Management division of the National Bank of Canada.
