On Monday, June 25th, 2018, I headed down to Bridgeport, NJ, in South New Jersey to document the operations of SMS shortlines. SMS shortlines is a small railroad that operates within the Pureland industrial park, taking freight from a Norfolk Southern/CSX interchange and delivering it to about 15 different industries. They use 4 different engines, including a Baldwin DS44-1000 switcher from 1949, which they happened to be using today. This particular engine, #9069, was delivered to Pennsylvania railroad in 1949, and was ultimately given to SMS shortlines. It was briefly painted in SMS's green paint scheme, but was painted back into the Pennsylvania railroad scheme by the crew, many of whom are avid railfans. In this clip, #9069 pushes 11 freight cars across Pedricktown road.
