Everyone in the space data sector talks about NDVI. It's used in almost every application where vegetation is important. It is used for mapping such things as forests & forest loss, landscape connectivity, crop yield forecasting, and urban green space. It is such a core part of satellite measurements of the environment, that some analysts even try to convert radar images to NDVI (something this instructor frowns upon!).

In this fourth lesson, I show you why NDVI is a useful metric to use. Using some Sentinel-2 data we explore how to determine the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) in Earth Blox and how it can be used to quantify the properties of vegetation. Once you've finished this video, you'll be able to create an NDVI map of anywhere in the world (and any time from 2016 onwards). Try it yourself!
