The joint team of SPH Engineering (http://industrial.ugcs.com) and Avartek (http://avartek.fi) has tested the combination of a #hybrid #drone with 2+ hours of flight time integrated with a #GPR as the payload in the harsh environment of Finland.

#Drones with a #hybrid #propulsion system open a new era for #GPR surveys productivity enabling to cover up to 20 km of #GPR survey lines in 2 hours, which is two orders of magnitude better compared with traditional terrestrial surveys using a cart or a sledge, and up to 5 times more efficient than standard battery-powered drones.

#Low- (125Mhz) and #high- (500Mhz) #frequency GPR antennas were tested. The main concern was the electromagnetic disturbance and noise from the hybrid propulsion system, but the experiment confirmed that these factors are not significant - at least for the tested #GPR systems.
