Gold is generally viewed as a hedge against inflation, safe harbor, real asset.

The gold standard, which the US scrapped back in 1971, is generally viewed as preventing inflation as governments and banks are unable to manipulate the money supply, such as by overissuing money. The gold standard also stabilizes prices and foreign exchange rates. Talk around the globe is of gold standard for BRICS nations coming soon. As well as CBDC.

China has been the largest buyer of gold among central banks in recent years, purchasing bullion every month since October 2022. As of April 2024, the People's Bank of China has announced gold purchases for 18 consecutive months.
By the end of 2022, gold made up 4.3% of China's central bank reserves, up from 3.6% in early 2022.

As of April 2024, China's official gold holdings were 2,264 tons, accounting for 4.9% of the PBoC's total reserves, which is a record high.

Think about that and compare to US banks which don't even have a 4% percent reserve today!

This is serious.
