Yellapur (Uttara Kannada): A tanker carrying ethanol was completely gutted in a massive fire following a horrific accident that occurred at night in the Arabail Ghat section of Yellapur taluk in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka state.
The lorry, had departed from Chikkodi en route to Kerala, the lost lost control at a sharp curve in the ghat, collided with a roadside light pole, and the vehicle overturned. Flames erupted instantly, and due to the highly flammable ethanol cargo, the fire spread rapidly, reducing the vehicle to ashes within moments.
Amid the intensity of the crash, sources confirmed that the lorry driver fortunately escaped with his life. Luckily the houses in the nearby area remained unaffected by the fire.
Traffic on National Highway 63 came to a complete halt for some time, leading to a massive vehicle jam. Normalcy was restored only after fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze.
A case has been registered at the Yellapur police station in connection with the incident.
