I start off by going back and grabbing the bonfire shortcut I missed earlier (which with the amount of mobs I had to kill I'm not sure if it was actually a shortcut) and the use the Iron Key in the Forest of the Giants (I know I thought I was never going to come back here) and got us a nice DLC key.
