This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In his TEDx talk Kilian will explain the relation between money and happiness. Many people ask themselves the question: does money make me happy? In this talk you will find that this question is not one-dimensional. Some people become very happy with money, others don't. Kilian refers to his research at one of the major banks in the world, where he studied this relationship. He worked and lived in Monaco among the richest people in the world and found out why people react differently to money and that making people happy with money is not always possible.

Dr. Kilian W. Wawoe (1972) started his career as HR trainee at ABN-AMRO Bank, and held different HR jobs around the world.

Besides his daily job, Kilian researched the relationship between money, happiness and performance at his bank in India, Brazil, USA, the Netherlands and Romania. The crisis of 2008 brought him at a crossroad. His thesis showed that bonuses lead not only to wrong behavior, it also does not make employees happy! Kilian had to choose: publishing his PhD or stay at the bank. He decided to leave the bank.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
