Former Bangladesh Information Minister Mohammad Ali Arafat has raised serious concerns over escalating atrocities against minorities in the country. He said radical forces are attacking Hindu homes, businesses, shrines, and other communities, aiming to dominate society and eliminate peaceful coexistence. Arafat described the July 2024 events as a full-scale insurgency by Islamist radicals targeting Sheikh Hasina’s legally established government. He accused these groups of being ideological descendants of 1971 collaborators who assisted the Pakistani army in killing three million people and hold grudges against Awami League and India. He further alleged that the government seeks to hand power to the BNP, calling elections a “show,” while attacks continue on cultural institutions and minority communities. Arafat vowed to restore democracy and prevent Bangladesh’s slide into destruction.
