Solihull and HS2

Britain’s new high-speed railway, High Speed 2 (HS2), is now being built and when complete it will benefit Solihull and its surrounding areas by providing more capacity on the existing railway, cutting carbon emissions and offering better connectivity.

Serving Solihull, HS2’s Interchange station will be one of the best-connected places in the UK by rail, road and air. Interchange will also help catalyse economic growth in the area surrounding the new sustainable station, which will boast zero carbon emissions from day to day energy consumption.

As main construction of the Phase One route between the West Midlands and London commences, around 22,000 new jobs will be created in order to build the line, with an estimated 400,000 supply chain contract opportunities on offer for UK businesses.

Major construction feats at Interchange have included HS2’s first major permanent structure – a bridge spanning the M42 – which was completed in just two days in August 2020. Local business and political stakeholders gathered to see this significant event and shared their thoughts on what HS2 has to offer Solihull.
