No business is immune from staffing issues and the dental office is no exception. We depend on our team tremendously. Without them, our business would cease to exist.
Research shows that the biggest reasons why dental employees leave are:
Dr. or manager is too mean
hectic/stressful work environment
no place for advancements
hours are terrible
Pay is not worth all the responsibilities

Here are some helpful tidbits to deal with staffing issues
One: You need a strong foundation, a blueprint for your team to follow. Employee manual, training procedures, etc. People do a better job when there is a road map to follow

Two: Know exactly what position and duties you are hiring for. Dental assistants have different responsibilities in different offices. Some only help doctors with procedures, while others maintain the OSHA and other regulatory updates. More duties require more pay

Craigslist was the go-to place but that has been replaced with other sites like Indeed. The local dental society job posting is another great venue to post
Four: Hire slow and fire fast.
Take your time to research why this person is looking for a job, check their references, and ask them open-ended questions that test their leadership skills. For example "Tell me a time that you were challenged in life and how did you overcome it?" It's a lot easier not to let bad team members into your office than to fire them later.

Five: Make your work fun, or try to
dental office is a serious place but there is nothing wrong with making it fun to work. In the morning meetings, have a joke or play an improv game. People like have fun at work.
