While the EpiPen tends to be more commonly known, the Auvi-Q is another type of epinephrine auto-injector.

The cool thing about the Auvi-Q is that it talks you through the steps of how to administer it. It’s also more compact than the EpiPen.

A few notes:

• The person having the allergic reaction should sit or lay down while the Auvi-Q is being administered (I was just standing for the video)

• The Auvi-Q can go through clothing, but avoid administering it on seams, buttons, and pockets

• If you’re administering the Auvi-Q on a child, hold their leg still so you can hold the Auvi-Q in place for 2 seconds after the “click” and “hiss” sounds

• If your child has an Auvi-Q, I’d suggest practicing with the trainer so they get used to the “click” and “hiss” sounds and to keep their leg still

• If you have to administer the second Auvi-Q, administer it into the other thigh
