I decided to record this again before it gets officially removed. Out of all the lifts that are gonna be removed so far, Sunrise is honestly gonna be the one I’ll miss the least, due to its mostly-useless profile.

Sunrise lift has quite the history here! It was first installed by Garaventa CTEC in 1996 as Red Hawk to service a few runs, then shortened and slightly relocated in 2003 as Sunrise when the Canyons Village began construction. Not long after that, the quad chairs were downgraded to double chairs because of low ridership. This lift has a design speed of 400 fpm but runs 350 fpm (less during this recording) about the same as a beginner fixed grip lift. This lift gets little ridership due to many factors. First off, there is only one run off it, Retreat, that accesses the bottom from Over & Out and OBX Mid-Station/Short Cut. Sunrise is in a secluded location away from Red Pine Gondola and Orange Bubble, services homes/condos and hotels and is very overshadowed by the other lifts that service the massive resort footprint.

Sunrise will be replaced in 2025 by a new Leitner-Poma 10-person Gondola which will provide a 3rd option from Canyons Village and will rise to the Red Pine Lodge in a more sheltered alignment. Both the Red Pine Gondola and the Bubble are more prone to wind-holds than many other chairs because they both go over or on the same ridge-top. Both can get very crowded due to that or not other options to get out. The new Sunrise Gondola will start at the existing bottom terminal unlike the Gondola and Bubble. The new gondola will also be the first lift at Park City to be a direct drive and the first full Leitner-Poma build where the lift network is currently dominated by Doppelmayr.
