This is a video linked to the glitch report I send Notch on his twitter.

Hey Notch while playing 1.8.1 on an online server created after the 1.8 update, we used bone meal on a mushroom. Then promptly cut it down. afterward a square quite close to where we grew the mushroom started hurting us. It even acted as a wall. No mods or anything were running. This is a 100% clean server.
