1969: Prince Charles Investiture as Prince of Wales

Today the world witnessed the official Proclamation of King Charles III.

On 1 July 1969, the 20-year-old Prince was invested as the Prince of Wales by his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in a ceremony at Caernarfon Castle in Wales.

To mark Charles III's official Proclamation as King, we share this coverage of his 1969 investiture. The King announced yesterday that his title of Prince of Wales will be passed to his son and heir, Prince William.
