A Cold Winter Morning with Raritan Central RC-1

On January 6th, 2024, my friend Sheldon ‪@sheldonnicholasphotog‬ and I made trip up to the Raritan Central Railroad for another Saturday morning session of catching the RC-1 job as they did their work. Leaving the house early on what was a very cold morning, we arrived at Metuchen Yard before sunrise to find the crew doing their work, leaving their outbound cars for CSAO and picking the day's inbound train. They'd be using a quartet of engines today, RCRY GP38 2244, GP30M 5 and SW1500 duo 1074 and 1100. After catching them at Metuchen, we'd see them back within the Raritan Center as they shoved by Fieldcrest Avenue, before pulling back into the yard. After putting their train away, they would reverse to service South 40 brewing, a move I captured for the first time that day, before returning to the yard. With the switchers left behind, they'd work the yard and head out to service their Northfield Running Track customers as well as Home Depot, before calling it a day. Enjoy!
