Sagamore Spirit Rye 8 Year Cask Strength Batch 2A uncorking and first impressions. On the nose, there is candy cane, sugary fruits, caramel, and some herbal notes. On the palate, the arrival is quite sweet and syrupy at first, but quickly turns to more spicy, herbal, minty and peppery flavors. The finish is mostly the sweet flavors lingering. Overall, this is an excellent rye whisky at a great price point. I think it is not too different from the regular non-age stated cask strength offering. Honestly, I dont know if I would be able to pick one out as clearly better in a blind, but this is a neck pour so I will have to revisit. When it comes to the Double Oak little brother, especially when you compare them side-by-side, the Double Oak just falls short by having a more diluted mouth feel and a more tanine-forward and bitter oak finishe.
