This is a quick guide to getting started in Google Optimize with a small A/B test. In this scenario we A/B test the header of a webpage though the same process can be applied to any specific part of your own website.

Hi, I'm David Gallacher from Aillum and today I'll be showing you how to A/B test a header using Google Optimise on our website's home page. So, here we are with a newly created experiment in Google Optimise.

To get started, we'll want to create a new version of the page, also known as a variant. Click on "Add Variant", give it a suitable name and click "Finished". Our new variant is visible along with the original, so click Edit and we'll be taken to the variant editor, where we can make our desired changes.

We want to change the header text for this A/B test. So what we'll do is select the current header. This will highlight and select the HTML element on the web page. We can then click on Edit Element and Edit Text here to adjust the headline.

If you are comfortable with using code, there are advanced options to edit the HTML directly where you can also add some CSS.

Once we're happy with how it looks, we can now save the variant and return to the main experiment page. There are options to preview each variant that will be displayed during the A/B test. Make sure to double check each variant, just to be sure everything is correct.

To begin the test, choose a suitable objective to measure how well the variants perform. Check that your Optimize installation is verified so that the A/B test can run without any issues.

Now you can begin your A/B test by clicking "Start", or keep the test as a draft to run later.
