The first thing that needs to be said about Camille Saint-Saëns is that he was equally formed in both composition and organ in the Paris conservatoire between 1848 and 1853. That is: between his 13 and his 18. His organ teacher, François Benoist (1794-1878) was also teacher of Bizet, César Franck, Delibes, Adam... and many other composers of the XIXth century.

After his studies in the Paris Conservatoire Camille worked as a profesional organist in several churches, being the resident composer and organ player in the Madeleine Church, in Paris from that year to 1877, when he decided to try a career as a professional composer.

Many years after that, in 1894 he decided to publish 3 big Préludes and Fugues for the organ, the op. 99. I bring here the 2nd prédule, in B major that combines pastoral mélodies, slow trémolos and a charming atmosphere, quite far from many people thing the organ music is.
