Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off Maruti Suzuki’s first fully electric SUV, the E-Vitara, from the Hansalpur plant in Gujarat on August 26, 2025. This milestone marks a new chapter for the “Make in India” initiative, as the E-Vitara is built entirely in India and will be exported to over 100 countries, including advanced markets like Europe and Japan.

Maruti E-Vitara comes with two battery options: a 49kWh pack and a high-capacity 61kWh pack, offering a claimed range of more than 500 kilometers per charge. The base 49kWh variant is expected to be priced at Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), the 61kWh variant at Rs 25 lakh, and the all-wheel-drive option at Rs 30 lakh. The electric SUV is produced at Suzuki Motor Gujarat’s private facility and features advanced equipment like a touchscreen infotainment system, Level 2 ADAS, wireless connectivity, ventilated seats, and seven airbags.

E-Vitara will compete in the Indian market against other electric SUVs such as the MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, and Mahindra BE 6. The launch signifies a major leap in India's green mobility and manufacturing capabilities, reinforcing the global presence of Indian-made electric vehicles.
