Описание к видео Sewing and Silk Dying a Tallit - Creating a Jewish Prayer Shawl

In this video, we are making a tallit - a Jewish prayer shawl. This tallit is being made from silk. We'll be using silk painting techniques to create a beautiful, vibrant prayer shawl.
The Nora Show name was created specifically because it was a loose umbrella name that could grow with whatever direction my creativity took me. In this moment in time, my son and I are prepping for his bar mitzvah in a few months. We started looking at tallit and quickly realized that we both have incredibly expensive taste. And then I started looking closer and realized that I had every skill needed to actually create a tallit. This has been a fantastic convergence of many different crafty skills I’ve acquired over the years. So first I tried to do silk painting. Obviously my tension is a problem and this frame will be adjusting for the next time. 409 spray does a fantastic job of taking out jacquard acid dye from all of the kitchen surfaces. Yes my kitchen table is mildly pink and probably toxic if you lick it now. Thankfully I have zero humans that lick tables at this point in time. Should table licking become an issue, I’ll have to get a new kitchen table. But as the entire house continues to assault this table with every messy craft that we can think up, this table can just stay and continue to be mistreated. I let it dry. Rolled it up in paper, did a weird hanging thing and used my hat steamer to help set the dye. While that was steaming, I dyed another piece a solid red and after setting that color, I cut out 4 squares and a long rectangle. I got out my vinyl cutter and screen printer to create the attarah shoulder piece. I 100% freaked out when I saw the results. The level of victory I felt cannot be explained. Don’t worry Hebrew readers, I caught the lettering mistake and was able to correct it. I then used my embroidery skills and created 4 hand sewn grommet where the tzitzit strings go. The strings are on their way in the mail and I am not intimidated by this because this honestly looks like friendship bracelet making skills. Which I have. I have no idea what I’m actually doing with it because THIS was the test piece and proof of concept. I 100% found a new special interest to add to my collection of happy crafts and I guarantee that you will see more silk dying and tallit creations on this channel along with everything else that I’ve been doing. Happy crafting humans, and don’t forget to wear your gloves when messing around with dye and harsh soaps.
