Sustainable Beekeeping

Beekeeping is expensive; it can be even more expensive if you have to buy new bees every year to replace your losses.

One way to minimize this is through sustainable beekeeping.

In this presentation I define what sustainable beekeeping is, and I describe what the components of sustainable beekeeping are including the following:

•Avoid having to buy new bees every year by minimizing colony losses and increasing colony survival, and raising your own replacements (bees and queens)

•Ensuring that you have high quality queens in your colonies (young, healthy, and with desirable characteristics)

•Monitoring and managing for parasites & disease

•Using inputs when necessary but only when needed

•Learning from your experiences (both good and bad)

I hope through this presentation you will learn how to keep bees in a more sustainable manner, so that you can continue to keep bees successfully over the long term.
