Karinjeshwara Temple, also known as Karinjeshwara Mahadeva Temple, is situated in the picturesque village of Karinja in the Udupi district of Karnataka, India. Its origins are believed to date back centuries, with some sources tracing its history to the 10th century CE.

One of the most famous legends associated with Karinjeshwara Temple involves a sage named Parashurama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. According to the legend, Parashurama visited this region and, upon finding a Shiva Lingam (a representation of Lord Shiva) immersed in water, installed it and established the temple. The temple is said to have been built around this sacred Lingam, which came to be known as Karinjeshwara.

The temple reflects the architectural styles prevalent in the region, with its distinctive Dravidian-style tower (gopuram), intricately carved pillars, and sanctum sanctorum housing the Lingam. Over the centuries, the temple has undergone several renovations and expansions, with additions made to its structures and embellishments to its artwork.
