Jose Estella's 3rd "Cancionero Filipino" (an orchestral suite depicting Filipino scenes and folk songs) was entitled "Los Jaranistas" (The Serenaders). It depicts the process of a Cebuano Harana during that time.
The 1st movement, La Salida (The Departure), depicts the serenaders at night on the way to the house of the maiden they plan to serenade with.
The 2nd movement, La Enfrentada, depicts the beginning of the serenade proper. Joyous and moving songs were sung at first to greet and entertain the maiden's relatives and the crowd.
The 3rd movement, Declaracion de Amor (Declaration of Love) is the climax of the harana. This is where the suitors begin to sing their love to the maiden, hoping to catch her heart.
The Finale, De Retirada, depicts the serenaders back outside after the serenade. After the success of the serenade, the joyful serenaders frolic away into the night with their guitars and other instruments.
