Released in the late summer of 2007, Bioshock is a spiritual successor to the System Shock series. Bioshock streamlined its elements and used that foundation to build a game that was not only a critical darling but a huge commercial hit.

Bioshock is a wonderful title that still holds up. Bioshock itself is an interesting title to look back on for the time period in which it was released. A time I consider the closing days of the golden age of gaming.

While I do think Bioshock 2 is the better overall title, especially from a gameplay standpoint, it's Bioshock that provided that foundation and had the larger impact. Replaying Bioshock for this video, I don't feel the quality difference between the two is as large as I thought when I made my video on Bioshock 2.

Set in the unforgettable setting of Rapture in 1960, Bioshock invites us into the world of Andrew Ryan and all that it entails. From the incredible design to the compelling story, to gameplay that gives you a wide palette to choose from, to an incredible plot twist, Bioshock is a wonderful title that's always a joy to revisit.
