President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. signs into law the ‘Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act’ in a ceremony at the Ceremonial Hall in Malacañan Palace on June 3, 2024.

Known as the Senate Bill No. 1964, the initiative honors the dedication of public school teachers by doubling their annual teaching allowance from PhP5,000 to PhP10,000.

Historically, public school teachers' allowances have increased incrementally from PhP100 in 1988 to PhP5,000 by 2021, but the ‘Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act’ marks the most substantial increase yet, providing additional funds to assist teachers with expenses related to blended learning. These include internet, electricity and essential devices like laptops.

The signing represents a significant step towards supporting the essential role of teachers in the education system, ensuring they have the resources needed to enhance the learning experience for students across the nation.

In attendance during the ceremony are Vice President and Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sara Z. Duterte, members of the Senate and House of Representatives, and other distinguished guests.
