richard "rick" sanchez of dimension c-137, commonly referred to as rick c-137, is the titular main protagonist of the rick and morty franchise. he is a megagenius scientist whose alcoholism and reckless, nihilistic behavior are sources of concern for his "daughter's" family, as well as the safety of their son, morty. upon the series' inception, rick's mysterious origins and mental health were large sources of speculation. he was voiced by justin roiland from season 1 to season 6. rick and morty is an american adult animated science-fiction sitcom created by justin roiland and dan harmon for cartoon network's nighttime programming block adult swim. it is distributed internationally by warner bros. television distribution. the series follows the misadventures of rick sanchez, a cynical mad scientist, and his good-hearted but fretful grandson morty smith, who split their time between domestic life and interdimensional adventures that take place across an infinite number of realities, often traveling to other planets and dimensions through portals and on rick's flying saucer. the general concept of rick and morty relies on two conflicting scenarios: domestic family drama, and an alcoholic grandfather dragging his grandson into hijinks. roiland voiced the eponymous characters, with chris parnell, spencer grammer, and sarah chalke voicing the rest of rick and morty's family. the series originated from an animated short parody film of back to the future created by roiland for channel 101, a short-film festival cofounded by harmon.
glados (genetic lifeform and disk operating system) is the central core designed to control, guide, and oversee the aperture science computer-aided enrichment center. with the ability to shift and move facilities and various chambers, glados is able to achieve a seamless and almost infinite testing design whilst residing in the central ai chamber. in possession of a feminine programming, she is the antagonist of portal and the first half of the single-player campaign in portal 2. during the later half, she becomes the game's tritagonist. in the game's cooperative campaign, glados is the testing supervisor of atlas and p-body. glados is voiced by opera singer and voice actress ellen mclain. portal is a 2007 puzzle-platform game developed and published by valve. portal consists primarily of a series of puzzles that must be solved by teleporting the player's character and simple objects using "the aperture science handheld portal device", often referred to as the "portal gun", a device that can create inter-spatial portals between two flat planes. the player-character, chell, is challenged and taunted by an artificial intelligence named glados (genetic lifeform and disk operating system) to complete each puzzle in the aperture science enrichment center using the portal gun with the promise of receiving cake when all the puzzles are completed.
