*I just do hope that the executives from Decca Records would consider remastering and releasing this on CD. Although Decca also holds the rights for the Mercury Living Presence version of this overture ( http://www.deccaclassics.com/cat/sing... ). But in my personal opinion, this version by Sir Robert Sharples and the London Festival Orchestra is much better than the Mercury Living Presence version. The deep throbbing sound of the cannons combined with the balanced volume of the carillion bells and the outstanding performance of the London Festival Orchestra as conducted by the brilliant Sir Robert Sharples, makes this at what might be the most faithful reproduction of the overture. If you listen closely to the Mercury Living Presence version, there are some out of tune overtones resulting from the sound of the carillion bells and during the string part, which at times is very unpleasant to hear, and the sound of the cannons, although it's a genuine french douay cannon from 1775, is more of a bang sound than a boom sound (that blast sound from the Mercury Living Presence version is exceptional, but we're listening to a classical music with cannons as background, not vice versa). It's only my personal opinion, as both versions are acclaimed as a landmark in recording this Overture ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1812_Ove... ).
