The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office proudly graduated 11 deputies who have completed their enhanced Basic Peace Officer Standards and Training program. This advanced training equips them to serve not only as corrections officers within the Orleans Justice Center but also to better protect and assist residents on the streets of New Orleans, contributing to the overall safety and well-being of our community.

In addition, four deputies graduated from the Basic Peace Officer (POST Level 1), further expanding the agency’s capacity to provide top-tier services and care inside the Orleans Justice Center and within the community.

The graduation ceremony, held at the Performing Arts Center Auditorium at the University of New Orleans, featured a keynote speech from the new Chief of Corrections, Jay Mallett. Chief Mallett echoed Sheriff Susan Hutson's vision and mission for the agency, emphasizing the importance of integrity, accountability, and community engagement in their roles as law enforcement officers.

The ceremony was also marked by a series of significant announcements and honors. Sheriff Hutson recognized the promotion and appointment of 10 senior leaders within the OPSO, including the historic appointment of the first female Deputy Chief in the agency's history.

The achievements of the cadets from Basic Corrections Class 2-24 were highlighted as well. Deputy Shaniyah Macon was honored with multiple awards, including Highest GPA, Highest Post Score, Firearms "Top Shot," and the prestigious Sidney Zafutto Award. Additionally, Marilyn Flores received the Physical Fitness Award for her exceptional dedication and excellence in physical training.

We congratulate these new graduates and celebrate their commitment to serving our community with integrity and excellence.
