2024 World Championship in Shoe Patina | London Super Trunk Show | Kirby Allison

The World Championship in Shoe Patina, part of the annual London Super Trunk Show, is a premier event for leather dress shoe enthusiasts. This esteemed contest highlights the artistic aspect of shoemaking known as "patina." Talented artists specializing in unique shoe finishes use leather dyes, creams, and waxes to transform undyed shoes into exceptional, custom creations.

This competition gathers top patina artists from around the globe, challenging them to display their skills and creativity as they turn ordinary shoes into extraordinary works of art. The event celebrates this unique art form, elevating the craft and recognizing the creativity and dedication of these skilled artisans. The finalists for the 2024 competition offered three unique firsts:

1) Albert Gjukaj (Switzerland) - the first person to ever qualify simultaneously for the finals of both the World Championship of Shoe Shining and the World Championship in Patina.

2) Toan Junie (France) - the first to win the World Championship in Patina back in 2022, and so far the sole previous winner of this competition ever to return for a second attempt at winning first place.

3) Morgane Lévêque (France) - the very first female patina artist to qualify.

During the competition, each of the three finalists has just four hours to complete their masterpieces. They utilize various techniques, such as blending colors and layering shades, all while creatively pushing the boundaries of their craft.

Once the shoes are finished, a panel of judges meticulously evaluates each pair, considering both the aesthetic appeal and technical execution. Ultimately, they select one artist to be honored as the World Champion of Patina.

This year's competition was even more closely contested than last year in 2023, resulting in some absolutely stunning work by all three artists. However, in the end, Morgane Lévêque emerged victorious, earning the title of 2024 World Champion in Patina.
