Part 1. Humble beginnings and an unlikely partnership.
In 1971, John Duncan sells electronic calculators from the boot of his car and decides to join forces with a competitor to take over the Sharp Newcastle dealership. They soon branched out into the booming business of photocopiers, printers, and cash registers.
John studies IBM computer programming which kicks starts the idea of creating their own programs for cash register machines to suit their hospitality customers, primarily pubs and clubs.
In the early ’80s, facsimile machines mark a huge leap in business technology and every business wants one.
David Potter explains how strong relationships helped grow the business and how they continue to foster relationships today.
In 1990, Darren Zink joins the progressive team at Sharp Electronics as a service technician and quickly moves into the programming of cash registers, marking the inception of SENPOS Point of Sale.

Part 2. Breaking the mould and weathering the storm.
The rise of SENPOS Point of Sale and diversification into Office Products and Office Furniture.
John and Darren explain how SENPOS was the catalyst for the substantial growth of the business. They start to write and develop their own software and install the hardware for clients, earning themselves a solid reputation in the industry.
Joel Anderson discusses how they further diversified into Office Products and Office Furniture creating further growth. Sharp acquires large local accounts including Port Waratah Coal, Newcastle Permanent and Greater Bank.
Tony Minehan recalls the impact of the Pasha Bulka storm in 2009 and the extensive damage caused by the flood. The whole staff pulled together to assist in the weekend clean-up, ensuring they are open for business the following week. George describes the great team culture and how the staff at Sharp Office are the company’s greatest asset.

Part 3. Keeping it local and the marking of a new era with a rebrand.
John plans his retirement and helps orchestrate a management buy-out that takes place in 2015 ensuring Sharp remains proudly locally owned and operated.
Following the initial impact of the COVID pandemic in 2020, the new ownership team decide to move forward with their plan to rebrand the company bringing two arms of the business together, Print Solutions and OfficeTrend, to form 'Sharp Office'.
The new owners explain the importance of the rebrand and its timely implementation for the continued success of the company.
