Slovenia 2022-07-22: Packrafting Soča (Čezsoča - Srpenica 1)

The Soča river in the Slovenian Alps is one of Europe’s paddling jewels. Not only is the scenery absolutely majestic and its emerald waters as clear as can be, there is also a large variety in terms of levels of difficulty, ranging from easy class I all the way to very challenging class V.

During a recent family trip, we make a 1-day stop in the town of Bovec, and decide to packraft the Čezsoča to Srpenica 1 section, which is class I-II and should therefore not pose problems for anyone, especially with the current low water levels.

As we are 4 people and only have 2 packrafts, we do the descent in 2 shifts. Conditions are sunny and warm, and surprisingly, we don’t see any other paddlers. On the river, we meet several flat sections, but also quite a few small and easy rapids, of which the ones close to the Log Čezsoški bridge are the least trivial.

The landscape on this section is particularly beautiful, and in fact has been the setting of the Disney movie “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” in 2007.
