In Class A, one of the most talked-about entries at the 2025 Garmin ORC World Championship is a newcomer to ORC racing but a seasoned performer on the international Grand Prix circuit. Niklas Zennström’s Carkeek Fast 40+ RAN, flying the Swedish flag, was built in the UK and has been a force in the competitive Fast 40 class since her launch in 2018. With a crew hand-picked from some of the sport’s finest talent in the US, UK, and New Zealand, RAN wasted no time making her presence felt in Tallinn.

In the Long Offshore race, RAN led the Class A fleet around the course from almost the start to the finish, claiming the line honours victory. However, in the corrected time standings, the team had to settle for sixth place after hitting light-air patches on the approach to Tallinn, which allowed rivals SCAMP THREE (POL), MERCEDES BENZ (FIN), and PURE (GER) to seize the top podium spots.

We caught up with Zennström to hear his thoughts on joining the ORC Worlds for the first time, the team’s performance in a challenging opening Long Offshore Race powered by Piletilevi / PLG and what’s ahead for RAN in the coming days
