Tutorial on how to set up x360ce with Sonic Adventure 2 (PC/Steam) for anyone else having the problems I did. If you already know how to set up x360ce, you can skip to 3:20 to get to the point.

Update 12-23-2012 - Once you set Player InputWay to 1 in the keyboard.cfg file, you can make the file read-only. If you do this, you can launch the game through Steam/the main launcher and it will prevent it from resetting and disabling your game pad. Thank you goes out to IRussianBOOM for providing this info!

Update 12-01-2012 - I noticed I rambled a lot, so here's a simple explanation for those who already know how to use x360ce.

1. Open up your Sonic Adventure 2 directory (default is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sonic Adventure 2)

2. Copy x360ce files over to the game's root directory and set up your controller if needed.

3. In the Config folder, there is a file named Keyboard.cgf - open it up and you will see Player InputWay="0" Vibrate="0". Make the 0 after Player InputWay a 1. Save it and close.

4. Now you're set, but there's one more thing you need to be sure to do: Open the game directly with sonicapp2.exe in the root directory. You can just do what I did and set a shortcut to the desktop.

If you open it with Steam, it will bring up the launcher first. When this happens, it doesn't detect your controller. So when you choose "save and launch game", it causes Player InputWay in keyboard.cfg file to reset back to 0. If you need to change any other settings by using the launcher, remember to re-edit your keyboard.cfg file afterwards.
