Hybrid Jump Start: Avoid This Common Mistake!

Buckle up for a wild ride as we demonstrate the proper way to jump start a Dodge using a Prius Hybrid, while avoiding common pitfalls and misconceptions found on the internet. Step 1: Locate the battery on the Hybrid vehicle (example gen 2+3 Prius have the battery in right hand side of the hatch, Gen 4 Prius is under the hood, and Prius C's battery is under the passenger rear seat.

Step 2: Connect the red positive jumper cable to the positive terminal on the car with the flat (weak) battery.

Step 3: Connect the other red positive jumper cable to the positive battery terminal on the car giving the jump to 12 volt battery of the hybrid car.

Step 4: Connect the black negative cable clamp to the negative battery terminal or common ground on the car giving the jump.

Step 5: Connect the second negative clamp to vehicles's 12 Volt battery or common ground such as a solid, stationary, and unpainted metallic point that is out of the way.

Step 6: Then you can turn on the Toyota hybrid and look for a “Ready” indicator to come on and keep it on for at least 5 minutes.

Step 7: From here, you just need to start the engine on the vehicle needing the jump.

Step 8: You can then remove the jumper cables from both vehicles.

Tip: Let the vehicle with a weak battery run for at least 30 minutes before turning it off.
Tip: You should get the battery tested!
