Dragon Ball Super | Gohan Vs Goku Soundtrack (Dobos, Kageyama, Smith, Sumitomo, Satō) | By Gladius

This is a very special track I wanted to make after reading the latest chapter of the DB Super Manga. There's something truly celebratory about Goku sparring with his son, Gohan after all these years. When it came to the music, I wanted it to feel like a celebration of Dragon Ball, a medley of some of the greatest hits, both from the Japanese and American score. This is the most composers I've arranged together at once, including Hironobu Kageyama responsible for “Cha-La Head-Cha-La”, Norihito Sumitomo for “Limit Break x Survivor” and the Ultra Instinct Theme, Mike Smith with “Gohan Angers”, Julius Dobos and “New Earth Music”, and finally the main theme from DB Super: Super Hero written by Naoki Satō.

In the beginning, I felt it not only appropriate, but moving to use “New Earth Music” as Goku & Gohan both get ready to fight, bowing to each other. This theme is very much associated with Goku, his family and friends. This theme always used to make me emotional when Goku returned from other world and met Goten for the first time, or when he sent Gohan off to fight Buu after attaining his ultimate form.

As they ready themselves, the motif from the original DBZ opening theme “Cha-La Head-Cha-La” comes forth, to call back to Goku's beginnings as a father, but also Gohan's journey to becoming a Z fighter.

The battle starts! The theme of “Gohan Angers”represents Gohan's fire, but also his frustration of letting himself become complacent during peaceful times, however, this time he has learned his lesson, that he has a responsibility to protect his family and to always be ready. He has returned stronger than ever.

I created a new theme following Gohan Angers, that represents the growing power between the father and son, the thrill of battling each other and getting stronger together. I wanted it to feel like Sumitomo’s style, like it could fit in to the Dragon Ball Super anime itself.

But Gohan must remember he is fighting the power of Ultra Instinct; the theme explodes, reminding him of his father’s mastery as a martial artist.
However, Gohan has ascended to a new level also, his Beast form is truly formidable, and we hear the theme from Super Hero to remind us of the what recently took place for Gohan.

And finally, each fighter find themselves locked in, both having the time of their lives, and my slightly faster version of Cha-La expresses their excitement.

I don’t know where the next chapter will take us, but this music is how it made me feel reading it so far 🥹 I had a blast making this piece. Please enjoy this musical celebration of Dragon Ball!
