Step inside the real 19th-century locations behind HBO’s The Gilded Age: New York and Rhode Island streets, estates, and museum-grade mansions, guided by details straight from the production.

We track Season 3’s footprint from Troy, Schenectady, Albany, and select NYC/White Plains spots to Long Island’s Old Bethpage Village Restoration and Gold Coast Studios. In Rhode Island, filming stretched across Providence’s historic streets and Newport’s grand summer mansions. Production designer Bob Shaw reveals how a modern space was transformed into the Tenderloin nightclub using 19th-century Orientalist design, and how his team balances research with creativity.

Mansion highlights include Marble House, The Elms, Rosecliff, and The Breakers—each playing a key role in bringing the Russells’ world to life. To protect these fragile sites, the crew uses meticulous preservation methods, sometimes even closing historic rooms to the public for weeks at a time.
