Pharma is a heavily regulated industry with a long
product R&D and lifecycle. Sustainability has been
rightfully defined by SMEs; however, is often internally
focused. That said, Pharma is a significantly leveraged/
outsourced industry, e.g., scope three is 11.4 times
scope one and two. For us to be successful we must
successfully collaborate with our supply chain such that
they mirror our ambitious sustainability goals and enable
our supply chains success…key is how?

SPP Pharma Chapter will provide an introduction and brief
overview on why the Procurement function is key to
addressing our mutual supply chain sustainability
challenge and what we will be focusing on to help enable
Pharma SPP Ambassadors in 2022. As importantly,
we will be seek.

Zelia currently manages the global Sustainable Sourcing and Scope 3 program for Merck & Co., Inc. She has approximately 30 years’ experience in the Sustainability field, including managing Estee Lauder Brands and Pitney Bowes Environmental Compliance and Sustainability programs globally. Specific program areas she has managed include: Product Compliance, Product Stewardship, Sustainable Packaging, Responsible Sourcing, Conflict Minerals, ESG Data Systems, Risk Evaluation, ISO 14001 and ESG Auditing. Together with Rikke Gade Christensen (LEO Pharma) she leads the PSCI Environment sub-team and was also a 2021 PSCI Board member.

Fred currently leads Pfizer’s Indirect Sourcing team with category, regional and site responsibility to support the sourcing strategy to execution for Supply Chain, Energy, Facilities, Site Services and Capital. Fred has been a sustainability/climate action champion within Pfizer and the industry for the last 20 years. Fred has successfully integrated sustainability practices as a site engineer influencing Labs 21, Global EHS Commercial Lead and Co Green Building team lead, Fleet Operations Lead and recently as an enterprise Scope 3 Climate Action champio
